The Northwestern Jazz Discovery Music Festival is coming up on Saturday, March 17th. The festival will include performances by high school and middle school bands throughout the day as well as a noon concert and jam session led by the Winthrop University Jazz Combo. The guest ensemble this year is Matt Wilson’s Arts & Crafts which includes Matt Wilson on drums, Terell Stafford on trumpet, Gary Varsace on piano and Hammond B3 and Martin Wind on bass. The group just closed a stint at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Lincoln Center and will be performing in St. Louis after they leave Rock Hill. They are a great ensemble that I think you will thoroughly enjoy. Matt will also perform with the Northwestern Senior Jazz Ensemble at 3:00 and the instrument clinics will follow at 3:45. As in the past all of the events during the day are free and open to the public and tickets for the evening concert are $20.00.
